19 of Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hardcourt

A resurgent the Russian player secured his initial title for nearly 30 months with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

Medvedev, a former number one, has endured a difficult year, achieving just a single victory at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the US Open.

His inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his service game in particular - led to him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally parting ways with long-term mentor his previous coach.

Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, he has gradually progressed in the past month - peaking in a closely contested competitive win over opponent Moutet.

This marks his initial title since the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt after that period of the previous year.

Success also means he has secured 21 championships at twenty-one various events.

"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my two daughters simultaneously, so to get a title is particularly special," commented tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my younger daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I achieved when my child her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had been defeated in his last six title deciders, featuring in Halle in the past months.

Medvedev's counter-punching play style and regular reactions on the tennis court had led commentators to question if his capacity to play at the elite level was over.

But the athlete has implemented adjustments in the past month, attempting to come to the net and compete positively, reinforced by an improved serving game.

The champion came back from a deficit in the opening set against the difficult opponent, winning four of the concluding five points to take the lead.

Both players swapped breaks in the following set before Moutet, attempting for his first tour championship, gained dominance to push for a final set.

The opponent rescued 4 initial opportunities in a close final set before the Russian broke to that score to secure the win.

Fittingly, Medvedev clinched victory with a point at the net area, with Moutet unable to control a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
